LEADERSHIP

Core values of Impact Youth Network International

“We have different gifts according to the grace given us… If a man's gift is LEADERSHIP, lets him govern diligently”. [ Romans 12:6, 8 NIV].

What is Leadership?

Leadership is the heart to love people which must be done diligently well. There are principles to follow as a leader. A true leader must believe he represent God at every point in his life and must always provide a service that reverence God in his positions, Psalm 32:8.

LEADERSHIP IS AN ACT OF LEADING A GROUP OF PEOPLE OR AN ORGANIZATION.

It is an act of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving a common goal. Becoming a good leader is something that most of us strive towards today.

To be a Leader,here are some things you need to bear in mind;

1. LEADERS ARE SERVANT FIRST.

“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you MUST BE YOUR SERVANT”. [Matthew 20:26].

Jesus taught his disciples not to emulate the rulers of the Gentiles who exercised authority over them. Instead, He taught that in order for us to be leaders, we must become servants first. We must learn that leadership is a position to serve men. It is different from the notions to exert labour and exploit People.

2. LEADERS RELISH COMPETENCE.

As a leader you have to master your area of strength and delegate work among members. A leader must recognize the skills of those around him and not have the mentality of he alone can do it. It can be largely busy but not productive for such leader. Moses was the only one Leading the people of Israel then all by himself without any assistance, he handles all Matters by himself, one day God spoke to Him through his Father In-law Jethro saying, “BUT SELECT capable men from all the people, men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain-- and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens”. [ Exodus 18:2], so He appointed Men to Office and that made the work easier and more productive for him. The Apostles delegated the work of the ministry, this gave them focus not leaving other things unattended to. So as a leader you must recognize the skills of those around you and Select them to work with you.

3. COURAGE MARKS GOOD LEADERSHIP.

Leaders are not the first to see opportunity, but the first to seize opportunity. Opportunities may come in the midst of Fear, it takes courage to grab the opportunity. David is an instance of one who acted courageously against Goliath. Goliath stood as a threat and fear. But David saw the opportunity while in search for his brothers and summoned the courage to Face the fear. Leaders must always put their trust in God. For he said in Isaiah 41:10 that, Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness... So a Leader must Rely on God for strength and courage to face Fear.

4. GOOD LEADERS TAKE COUNSEL

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” [Proverbs 11:14].

When leaders are ready and open to taking advice, their ideas become limitless. They can think of innovative ways to improve themselves. A leader is observed, instructed and inspired when he hears counsel. A leader must be open to corrections and find ways for improvement.

5. GOOD LEADERSHIP IS OF WORTHY CHARACTER.

If your aspiration for the people that follow you is to respect you, integrity is a must. Your accomplishments as leader will make your name known, your character will determine what people associate with your name.

"IT IS YOUR CHARACTER THAT DETERMINE YOUR LEGACY"...

People will judge “how you lead them” than “where you lead them”. The people you lead expect more from you by your character than what they expect from themselves.

Daniel 3:16-18

[16]Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. [17]If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.[18]But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

The three Hebrew men stood to their character in striking temptations.

A Leader should always serve to be a Role Model for his followers; having a desirable character and Positive Mindset.
